I hold an M.S. in biochemistry and a Ph.D. in molecular biology. My previous research focused on chromatin-associated transcriptional regulation in Drosophila germ cells, particularly on how SUMOylation of regulatory proteins modulates chromatin state, transcriptional repression, and heterochromatin-associated pathways. After completing my Ph.D., I also spent time studying bacterial defense systems. My current research focuses on mechanisms of heterochromatin formation and regulation in mammalian cells. Outside the lab, I enjoy traveling, hiking and long walks, reading, and occasionally drawing.
